Long sickened by caged hen cruelty, in September 2011 I re-homed four Ex-Battery hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust. In addition I took in two ducks from a neighbour and bought three young POLs. I had never owned poultry before and this website describes what I have discovered and shares a few tips that I feel are helpful to anyone wishing to give a home to Ex Battery hens.

I also detail mistakes I have made such as leaving gates open, building the ladder INTO the pen, buying rubbish feeders and thinking ducks and chickens were natually friends, plus the real costs and effort needed to keep these amazing and rewarding pets.
